The weather has been nearly ideal and the Flower Power gardens are growing on most satisfactorily. The plants listed above are all still blooming, save for the large yellow cornflower and the early delphinium. Just starting to bloom are the following:

  • Echinacea  -  Coneflower
    • at least 2 dozen varieties of many colours and forms
  • Rudbeckia  -  Black-eyed Susan, Gloriosa Daisy
    • about 10 varieties, mostly yellow/orange, some picotee and semi-double
  • Monarda  -  Bergamot
    • Very well grown, many shades
    • annual Monarda citriodora coming into flower
  • Phlox
    • many shades, some striped, some scented, large well grown
  • Crocosmia  -  Montbretia
    • shades of red and orange, very large
  • Allium  -  Ornamental Onion
    • purple/red drumstick variety, 3 ft plus, 6 in flower heads
  • Lilies
    • Various sizes, many colours, some scented
  • Veronicastrum
    • very tall, pink/red or white veronica-like flowers, usually bifurcate
  • Verbascum  -  Moth Mullein
    • this year from seed, "Katie's Candles" mixed colours - white, pink,salmon, purple and blues, very nice
  • Scabiosa atropurpurea  -  Annual Pincushion Flowers
    • very beautiful, many shades from white to near black, pink, purple, red and blue predominate
  • Lathyrus odoratus  -  Sweet Peas
    • high scent variety, plus several other mixed colour strains also scented
  • Penstemon
    • many more starting to bloom, various sizes and colours
